January 2022 – Wallpaper and Calendar

Happy New Year everyone! As my first post for 2022, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who have been reading my blog posts, and to the regular supporters of my wallpapers and calendars. I truly appreciate your support for my illustrations. Also, I’m beyond thankful to the new friends I gained last 2021 in both my Twitter and Instagram accounts. As a novice artist, I honestly have doubts in terms of my creativity and I’ve been worrying a lot whether people like my illustrations or not. Getting positive comments and the increase in my follower count became my strength to push forward and to strive to become better with my craft. I hope you can still join and continue to support me this 2022. As a resolution, I’ll try to be more active in posting here on the blog and to create more illustrations and products that will excite you. Again, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

This month’s wallpaper and calendar theme was inspired by the New Year Sticker Sheet that I created for my shop. Milky and Miggy were preparing to celebrate the new year with some party poppers and fireworks. The color palette was inspired by this year’s Pantone (based on what I read). Just like last month, I have two wallpaper designs: 1) Regular Wallpaper 2) Calendar Wallpaper

Just a quick note that starting this year, all monthly wallpapers and calendars will be posted on my Ko-Fi. They are still ABSOLUTELY FREE but should you wish to tip me for my artworks, you may also do so. If it is your first time to use Ko-Fi, just follow these steps:

To download the file for free, just put zero (0) on the amount portion then click GET NOW.

If you wish to tip me, just put any amount then click GET NOW.

You will be redirected to a page then put in your email address and nickname then click CHECK OUT NOW.

Once you successfully check out, click VIEW CONTENT on the next window that will pop-up and then DOWNLOAD the file.

I hope you enjoy this month’s downloadable files just as much as I enjoy making them for you. Thank you for dropping by and I’ll see you again in my next blog.

All downloadable files are for personal use only. Please do not trace, copy, reproduce, or share my illustrations and works for the purpose of selling or making profit. You may share them on your social media accounts but please tag me @buhnniestudio.

Art as a business

A little over a year ago I decided to take the plunge and bought an iPad to start my journey to digital illustrations. It was merely a hobby, something to take my mind off the pains of the pandemic. Clearly, Covid-19 took a toll on most people’s mental health – and I’m no exception. After watching countless videos on bullet journaling and studio vlogs from artists selling their crafts on Etsy, I suddenly had my Aha! moment. To be honest, buying an iPad in time of the pandemic was not a wise decision as I’ve been trying my best to maximize my budget since I’m still running my start-up business. I was torn for a couple of months because I needed an outlet to distract myself but I was worried to spend a lot (while I had no regular income coming in). In the end, the iPad won!

Draw, draw, draw

Ever since I got my iPad I’ve been drawing non stop. Seeking inspiration from Pinterest and a bunch of YouTube videos, I would sketch everyday to improve my craft. After months of making digital illustrations, I could compare the progress of my first illustrations to my current ones and I’m pretty satisfied with my new drawing style.

Taking the leap

I’ve been supporting local and international artists by buying their handmade products and I even subscribed to Patreon accounts of some of my favorites. Being a huge sticker hoarder, I enjoy collecting their works (A LOT) and seeing them successfully make a living out of something they are passionate about is something that really piqued my interest. Once in a while I would accept small and personal projects from family and friends. It was kinda like testing the waters to see if people would be interested in buying my products in case I decide to sell them. Surprisingly, I got good response from my small projects and that’s when I decided to take the leap and start my small handmade stationery shop.

Getting started

It took me a long while to get started. The search for the right cutting machine, printer, the best materials for my products, packing supplies, and choosing the right platform where I can sell my products at took up most of my time. I also had to do test prints and have made samples which I gave out to select people to get feedback.

I’m listing down the equipment and materials I needed to get me started on my new business venture. Please note that the list is just the things I use and does not mean that everyone has the same process.

List of equipment

  • iPad or tablet (for making illustrations)
  • Laptop or computer (for editing the illustrations)
  • Printer (to print the illustrations)
  • Cutting machine (to cut the stickers kiss cut or die cut)
  • Laminating machine (to make waterproof stickers)

List of supplies and materials

  • Sticker papers (assorted vinyl, regular stickers, transparent, kraft, etc.)
  • Photo top (cold laminator film)
  • tissue
  • mailers
  • cellophane or glassine bags

Store opening

After spending long hours preparing my products and pushing back my shop opening date several times, I’m proud to say that my shop is finally open! It was so surreal seeing the product photos already posted in my shop and that people are actually viewing them.

A couple of hours after making my shop live, I got my very first sale! I was out for some errands at that time but I started packing the order as soon as I got home; and it was the best feeling ever. As soon as the courier service picked up the order, it felt legit. I told myself, i finally made a sale and it was on its way to its new home.

Store link and current promotion

Currently, my store is only open to Philippine customers. I’m still testing the waters and I still have to learn about making an international store (I’m thinking of either Etsy or putting up a Shopify account). I need to do my research first. Plus, I’m working on a few more products which I plan to launch by January next year. So far, my store only have six products listed but that’s totally understandable since I’m still starting. I want to know what customers would want to see in my shop so I’m open to suggestions. If you have ideas please leave them in the comments. I very much appreciate your feedback.

If you’re from the Philippines, you can check out my Shopee store here. I’m currently having a small sale happening that will run from December 12-15, 2021 only. Use the code below upon check out so you can avail of the 5% discount (its not much but I hope it still helps).

Thank you for visiting my blog today. If you have content suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me in the comments. See you on the next blog!

Ice Cream June

Hello everyone! We are already half way through the year and I’m not even surprised. I’ve been a little busy lately with work businesses and barely touched my iPad to draw anything. I even forgot to make a wallpaper for May but as promised, I will make one for June.

Where I’m from, the weather is mostly humid all year round. When it is not extremely sunny, it is rainy. Right now, it is extremely HOT! I can’t even manage to stay outside for too long. Our electricity bill sky rocketed for a couple months now because we have to turn on the AC during the day time.

Lately, the hot weather has made me crave for ice cream and thus the inspiration for this month’s theme. I’ve been thinking about ice cream and pastel colors; both are pleasing to my eyes. I wanted this month’s theme to look refreshing with cooler tones.

I hope you all enjoy this month’s downloadable desk calendar and wallpaper. I’ll see you again soon!

A New Blog

Hello! Welcome to my new blog. From Happy Orchid, I’m off to a fresh start with a brand new name and new contents aside from my usual chitchat. With this new blog, I wanted to share not only my random thoughts and ideas but at the same time showcase my drawing skills (ok, I’m no pro but I’m looking for a venue to share my passion for drawing as well). I recently gifted myself with a new iPad which opened a whole new world of possibilities for me. It led me to dip my fingers in the world of digital art.

I have always been creative and art will always have a special place in my heart. When I was younger, I would draw and doodle whenever I had the time. I even participated in several art contests at school. I wasn’t academically inclined growing up but I would always excel in arts, dance, and sports. I still do the traditional way of drawing since I love to explore and create new themes and designs for my bullet journal. I also love to draw and make personalized cards for family and friends.

As I’m introduced to a new way of creating and drawing, I’m beyond excited to start my journey in digital art. I’ve always wanted to open my own stationery shop someday. With some practice and getting used to, who knows what the future holds? I’m up for the challenge!

With the launch of this new blog, I also want to introduce illustrations of my main characters Buhnnie, Milky, Miggy, and Star. They will make their debut appearances in my illustrations page soon. I hope to incorporate more artworks in this blog in the future. I plan on sharing printable calendars or downloadable wallpapers too someday. I really hope to turn this blog into a fun and exciting space for all my friends and new visitors alike.

I hope you can join me as I start this new journey.

Thank you for taking time to read my first blog post. I hope to connect with you again soon. Take care everyone!
